The Wallet Drainers script employed phishing campaigns within Google search results and Twitter ads, leading to the theft of millions of dollars from unsuspecting users.
As reported by Scam Sniffer, the nefarious script managed to pilfer nearly $59 million in digital assets from over 63,000 victims within a span of nine months. During this period, 10,072 websites were associated with Wallet Drainers, with heightened activity observed in May, June, and November.
The majority of these advertisements were linked to cryptocurrency and NFT airdrops, with some referencing well-known blockchain projects like Ordinals and Dogecoin (DOGE). The malicious ads utilized regional targeting and page-switching techniques to evade ad audits, making the review process more challenging. A test conducted on X’s ad feed revealed that out of nine ads, more than 60% were phishing ads associated with this wallet drainer.
